Angie’s Occupation

Genre: Comedy/Romance

Not only one of the best comedy books you will ever read, but Angie’s Occupation is also one of the best romantic comedy books as well.

In this engagingly funny 90-minute short story packed with outrageously memorable characters, Eric Alton rides a daily bus downtown to his non-rewarding job as an assistant book editor. When there, he is only allowed to edit cookbooks, not graduating up to fiction because his boss claims he lacks the courage.

During these bus trips, albeit from afar, he admires Angie, a beautiful young woman, and at first glance it would seem she was nothing other than a conservatively attired business professional. However, one day on the bus, she does the unprecedented – she sits beside him. It is then when he first learns of her occupation as well as her personal life and marital status. He finds himself appalled, dumbfounded, and disillusioned. Yet over the ensuing days he learns of additional vocations, ranging from the routine to the bizarre.

In your search for funny Ebooks online, try Angie’s Occupation. It’s one of the best funny romance books out there.

Q & A FOR ANGIE’S OCCUPATION

I READ SOMEWHERE THAT E RYAN JANZ ALSO OFFERS THE VERY BEST FUNNY ROMANCE BOOKS. IS THIS TRUE?

Not according to the reviews.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT ELEMENTS MAKE UP THE BEST ROMANTIC COMEDY BOOKS?

Most romantic comedies are centered on a love story between two people. The stories usually follow a couple as they meet, fall in love, overcome obstacles that keep them apart, defy the odds, and often live happily ever after. My books contain none of those elements.

I LOVE COMEDY BOOKS, BUT WHEN I LOOK FOR FUNNY E-BOOKS ONLINE IT’S REALLY DIFFICULT FINDING ANY THAT MATCH MY VERY DRY SENSE OF HUMOR. I’M SEARCHING FOR HUMOR THAT IS ALMOST SURREAL, IF YOU GET MY DRIFT. HUMOR THAT MAKES NO LOGICAL SENSE. ARE ANY OF YOUR BOOKS LIKE THAT?
I forgot the question.
This is another in a series of wholly unnecessary essays written by Biff Steele examining the works of E Ryan Janz, today highlighting one of the best funny romance books Mr. Steele has ever read.

Angie’s Occupation – An Engaging Romantic Comedy Book

by Biff Steele

Before we get started, I’d like to remind everyone, and you’ll definitely discover this in another four seconds or so, that I have no idea how to write. I flunked English so often in school that I wound up telling my fellow American classmates (and teachers) that I was born in Tibet on the summit of Mount Everest and was raised in Tibet’s predominantly native language. I think they grew a tad suspicious however, when I also told my friends that Tibet is located somewhere on the Great Lakes. My teachers seemed to believe me though.

Okay, let’s get rolling, but first you’ll find several book categories I’ve listed that I’d like you to peruse. And when I say I’d like you to peruse them, it means you should skip right past them as fast as your eyes can travel. They are:

good romantic comedy books

So, why on earth did I list these dopey book genres in the first place? Well, for no other reason but to insert them into this essay to attract more organic traffic to our website, as ridiculous as that might sound. What’s worse is I’m forced to continue scattering them throughout the remaining content for the same reason. I do apologize for it, but I’ll do my best to reduce their overall annoyance. Might not be doable, but I’ll try, so long as you keep in mind I’m borderline illiterate. In fact, I recently crossed that border and have taken up full residence.

With that acknowledged, let’s further suggest that Angie’s Occupation not only meets the specifications of the list above, but is one of the essential comedy books to read – a must read in fact. You see, whenever the words romance and funny are collectively mentioned, so should E Ryan Janz’s aforementioned short story. Yes, I suppose when it comes to superbly written modern romantic comedy books, Angie’s Occupation more than meets the requirements for any perspective reader. It’s the best funny romance book I’ve ever read, although you might keep in mind that it’s the only book I’ve ever read.

First off, it’s downright funny, which isn’t typical for a lot of supposedly funny romance books that claim as such. Despite the short length of the story, there are plenty of uproarious moments packed inside, so when you open it, it’s like unleashing a glitter bomb. The hilarity just pops off each page. Also, it’s a wonderfully sweet romance too, but that isn’t as readily apparent, since initially it’s mostly an unrequited love the protagonist feels. Despite that, by page 2, I realized that this was the best funny romance book I’ve read in some time (keeping in mind I do not read).

Our hero is Eric Alton, a likeable and handsome but otherwise nondescript young man that catches a bus each weekday for his job as an assistant book editor. And while on that bus, to say that Eric is surrounded by a bunch of loons, is an understatement. In fact, there are three in particular who Eric refers to as the “regulars”, and those three have one thing in common: they all admire a fellow bus traveler, Angie, but mostly from afar. Her looks are quite striking, and Eric in particular is enamored with her, however, he’s also intimidated by her beauty, so he also keeps his distance, even more so than the others. As one would expect funny and romantic books to typically proceed, you root for Eric and Angie to get together, yet you also root for the insane comedy to keep coming at you. It certainly does – by the bushel basket full.

Now, one day Angie does the unprecedented, she sits beside Eric on the bus, and they begin chatting. She’s dressed in conservative attire befitting that of a young business professional, and Eric is dazzled by her enormous charm. Then she mentions her occupation to him, and he is properly stunned. Most people would be, but adding to that, she imparts something else that is terribly distressing to him, something that convinces him there can be no future with her. Later, when all four male bus aficionados sit together, it turns out Angie has relayed a different occupation to each, one more bizarre than the last, generating additional laughs in this superlative romantic comedy book. One of the regulars, Albert, invites his bus mates over to the house he shares with “mother” to watch the “big game” on TV. By the way, it is wonderfully unidentified what this “big game” is or what teams are playing it. From this point the story speeds along just as good romantic comedy books need to do.

Sorry folks, but I’m obligated to interrupt this essay for the last time to create another redundantly out of place genre list, which as I say, serves to help us increase organic traffic to this site. Don’t ask me how that happens, but just skip right over it.

Okay, where the heck were we. Oh yeah, so a reluctant Eric and the two other regulars arrive at Albert’s house, with Eric attending for no other reason but to better understand Albert and his craziness. He feels meeting Albert’s mother will explain a lot, and he is not disappointed. In comparison, she makes the regulars appear somewhat normal and remains a wonderfully original character throughout the story, thus transforming this into one of those comedy books to read when you’re eager for rapid fire laughs. She’s also somewhat surrealistic, making you wonder if what is going on is actually happening. Well, trust me – it is.

Now, Angie’s invited as well, yet Eric dreads her showing up, just the opposite of how he had been feeling prior to first learning her occupation. Yet as the afternoon progresses and despite everything he knows about her, he returns to being completely smitten. Her arrival kicks the craziness of this wonderful romantic comedy book into even a higher gear, and then another.

I have read this short story about every six months since it came out, needing it especially when having to face the reality of this horrible job I seem to be stuck with. It’s one of those funny and romantic books that you come across every once in a blue moon that turns out to be genuinely worth the time reading, but it’s a quick read. I’d estimate it at 90 minutes or thereabouts.

So, if you enjoy dry humor and If you’re searching for comedy books to read, Angie’s Occupation might be right up your alley. I mean, you know how it goes, you’re desperately looking for funny and romantic books that are actually funny. I do have a friend, however, who I strongly recommended it to the other day, and she read it, but it left her wholly indifferent. Now, this surprised me because she ordinarily has a great sense of humor, but she told me she just didn’t get it. Yet I have another friend who I mentioned the book to reluctantly, because I thought she wouldn’t like it at all, and she loved it.

So, who knows which camp you’ll fall into? I do think that if you enjoy off the wall humor, the chances are pretty darn good that you’ll enjoy Angie’s Occupation

For me, it’s laugh out loud funny, and it keeps doing it to me every six months or so, like I’d never read it before.

I love this book, partially because it allows me to honestly tell people that I have read a book.

I hope you love it as well.
